F.T. Sessoms

I graduated from law school in 1977 and was a prosecutor for the next five years. Since 1982, I have practiced exclusively in the area of criminal and DWI defense. I was the 1998-99 President of the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice. I am a member of the National Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers and have been elected to the National College for DWI Defense.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I am the current chairman of the Amicus Committee for the MACDL.

For the past eight years, I have been named a Minnesota "Super Lawyer" by Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine and by Minnesota Law and Politics. This award is voted on by my peers and is only given to the very best lawyers in the field. The award is an objective measure of the competency and dedication that I bring to the practice of criminal defense and I am proud to be one of its recipients.

I was recently named a "Top 40 Criminal Defense Lawyer" and selected for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America" guidebook.

"Published biennially since 1983, The Best Lawyers in America is widely regarded as the preeminent referral guide to the legal profession in the United States. The Best Lawyers lists, representing 80 specialties in all 50 states and Washington, DC, are compiled through an exhaustive peer-review survey in which thousands of the top lawyers in the U.S. confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current, 13th edition of Best Lawyers (2007), is based on more than 1.8 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers."

These awards are not purchased with advertising dollars but again are voted on by my fellow attorneys and are a recognition of my years of successfully defending Minnesotans accused of crimes.

As a Minnesota DWI Attorney I have successfully defended hundreds of DWI cases and have had a significant impact on the law in my representation of clients. For example, in Ascher v. Commissioner of Public Safety, I convinced the Minnesota Supreme Court to outlaw the use of drunk driving roadblocks (AKA "Sobriety: Checkpoints"). As a Minnesota DWI Attorney in Kuhn v. Commissioner of Public Safety, I established that the police may not arbitrarily limit an individual's right to counsel prior to testing. As a Minnesota DWI Attorney in Davis v. Commissioner of Public Safety and in Hamilton v. Commissioner, I led the challenge to the constitutionality of the DWI/lmplied Consent Statute as well as the use of .20% for license revocation enhancements.

The driving while impaired and license revocation statutes are among the most complicated of all Minnesota Statutes. We will use that to our advantage, as police officers are often uninformed or ill trained in the technical requirements of the laws. What they do not know will hurt them because as a Minnesota DWI Attorney I provide a through and systematic analysis of every client's case and exploit every weakness to successfully defend the people I represent.

I love to win. Please call me (612) 344-1505 or email me, so that I might win for you.
